The Book That Showed Me Emotions I Never Knew I Had
This book was a definite eye-opener. It not only made me pause, but I had to double—maybe even triple—that pause before I found the strength to finish it.
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is an emotional, haunting story told through the eyes of Cadence Sinclair, a girl from a wealthy, seemingly perfect family. Every summer, she reunites with her cousins and a close friend on their family's private island. It is her favorite place in the entire world.
But there is a mysterious accident. Cadence is left with excruciating headaches and a foggy memory. When she returns to the island two years later, determined to piece together the truth, she slowly uncovers something heartbreaking—something she never saw coming.
This is by far one of the most beautifully written stories I have ever read. And damn….I did not see those twists coming. It brought out emotions in me that I didn't even know I had. I found myself so immersed in the Sinclair family's world that I felt every piece of their love, their pain, and the effects of every secret ever told in that book. And when the truth finally unraveled, it hit me like a punch to the gut.
I hurt so much that I had to put the book down —not because it wasn't good, but because it was too good. Too raw. Too real. That's the power of We Were Liars—it doesn't just tell a story but asks something of you. It demands that you feel, that you reflect, and sometimes, that you sit in silence with the weight of what you've just read. And let me tell you, the impact of this book was heavy.
If you're ready for a story that doesn't just entertain but lingers and cracks something open inside you, then give We Were Liars a chance. Just… don't expect to walk away from it unchanged.
